About us
Business Data Management is an initiative of Business Data Management Nederland.
BDM Nederland was founded in 2012 by Nico de Gier MSc. BDM Funding B.V. was founded in 2013 in The Netherlands in order to develop and promote Business Data Management as a different and improved way to model the Business from data perspective.
Nico finished his studies on Business Informatics in 1980. His first job at the Royal Dutch Air Force was on data modelling of existing logistics systems and he contributed to the principles of the difference between logical business models versus implementations in systems. He developed a data modelling and data governance training and became a part-time teacher. He modelled all kinds of different businesses and concepts: from F16’s to dredgers, campsites and winter sport resorts, logistic systems to banking systems. Modelling and defining the meta data model for implementation in data dictionary’s, encyclopaedia’s, lexicons and development of tooling, together with the data management processes, became a necessary product to organise the work.
Nico also had the ambition to develop as an all-round information and business analyst. He supported the business in change either to eliminate bottlenecks or create opportunities. By redesigning their processes and systems based on what is needed (requirements). He also fulfilled roles as coach, manager, project manager and architect. In 2010 he got is MSc degree in Accounting and Finance.
He recognised the increasing complexity of business and the problems that IT specialists have in creating data models. For example systems and their data structures become more and more generic to service all kinds of companies and businesses making it hard to create the Business Data Model from it and set the right data quality standards and controls.
Since 2012 Nico is an independent entrepreneur supporting local company’s on Business Data Management and is developing all kinds of products and training programs on BDM. If you speak Dutch, you can follow this company on https://businessdatamanagement.nl (yet to come).
